Vortice Voyeur is a digital presentation that explores the theme of live perfomances in a virtual space (aka your personal space). Most importantly, it questions if theatre could be presented out of a conventional theatre space and still retains its theatrical experiential quality experienced by the viewer. Artistically, it also explores how digital art and performance could co-exist in a virtual space mediated by live streaming.

Synopsis

Vortice Voyeur is a digital presentation that explores the theme of live performances in a virtual space (aka your personal space). Most importantly, it questions if theatre could be presented out of a conventional theatre space and still retains its theatrical experiential quality experienced by the viewer. Artistically, it also explores how digital art and performance could co-exist in a virtual space mediated by live streaming.

Using Ota Shogo’s Water Station as an existential departure point, Vortice Voyeur places a lone dance body on stage going through life’s different stages of existence watched by many unknown viewers online.

Viewers establish their own relationships with the body, performance and digital art elements as they view the presentation. It is an emotional and spiritual experience for some, but it could also be a critical reflection on how theatre (or performance for that matter) could be presented post-pandemic. Philosophically, Vortice Voyeur questions the validity of theatre as a live presentation in the current state of affairs.
